By day, a quality control manager for a small precision aerospace machine
shop, Jan inspects, certifies, and controls the production of precision
electrical components for NASA, (Space Station 2000 and the Martian Rover),[See
Jan's connectors on the Martian Rover]...Boeing, Amphenol and other aviation
companies. She reads blueprints, operates complex computer aided
metrology instruments, and coordinates production in addition to filling
gaps in personnel by welding, machining on lathes, milling machines, drill
presses, and large punch presses. Occasionally she will silver solder a
radiator,too!
On breaks, lunch hour, nights and weekends, she is absorbed with gourmet
cooking..
and producing works of art with fabric and thread. Jan works
by designing her own patterns.
sketching out ideas and forms on paper, and then transferring it to
cloth.
The designs and ideas come completely from her own mind, not patterns
from a book
When asked how she does it, some smart remark is made: "I just
cut away everything
thats not the thing I want to see".... hehehe.
Works for her...
Jan's work has won numerous awards in competitions throughout New York
State,
and has been featured in exhibitions at art galleries in New York City
and locally.
